The two major categories of telemarketing are Business-to-business and Business-to-consumer.

Subcategories

1. Lead Generation, the gathering of information.

  • This is when an agent is simply assigned to make a certain number of calls for the day looking for the keys person, the contact information of these key persons and encoding them into the data base of the client.

  • The client or company provides the database of leads.

 2. Appointment Setters: Setting of Sales appointments.

  • This is when an agent calls target clients and uses their sales ability to set an appointment with the prospect client and the company’s sales closer.

  • The client or the company provides the database of leads.

 3. Sales, using persuasion to sell a product or service.

  • Outbound, proactive marketing in which prospective and preexisting customers are contacted directly. Database provided by client or company.
